Lets talk 'maskne'

Updated: Mar 31, 2021

Over the last few weeks of masks becoming an essential thing, I have had several of you message me asking for advice. I just thought I would pop some of my tips here as not everyone feels comfortable sending a message. This is what has helped me on my personal Experience with 'maskne' (can't believe we are giving it a nickname)

  1. Double cleanse

I know this seems like a no-brainer, but you would be surprised by the number of people who do not double cleanse. Even if you don't wear makeup you will still want to do this. This will remove makeup & eye makeup, daily impurities, and excess oils from your day. Your second cleanse will be to target your skin type e.g if you use the purifying cleansing gel this will do the following

  • Unclog and tighten pores

  • Reduce excess sebum

  • Treat breakouts

  • Reduce Inflammation

  • Reduce shine

2. Use a clean face cloth daily

You will want to change this to a fresh cloth/towel/makeup remover daily. By leaving a wet face cloth sitting it will grow all sorts of nasties on it and then you are putting it on your face (yuck) never mind the fact it will have invisible nasties on it, but you will see visible dirt on it. You would never use a cotton pad then use it again, would you?

3.  Use products suitable for YOUR skin type

Again, you would think this is a no-brainer. A lot of the time people say to their friend (I've been guilty of this myself, I won't lie) my skin is x, y, or z and I'd love skin like yours, then our friends tell us what they use and we go buy it all to realise it doesn't work for us the same way it works for them. My advice? Whether it be a beauty salon, beauty counter, or where ever you buy your products from, ask for a skin consultation or skin analysis. Most places that offer skincare should offer this service. What I like to do is send my clients home with a few things to try and see if they like it. Try before you buy ladies and gentlemen.

4. Exfoliate

Exfoliate your skin so you don't have a build-up of dead skin cells, these can clog the pores and create more breakouts. By using an exfoliator you will be showing the world your newer and healthier skin below, its a win-win! You can choose between chemical exfoliants or physical. My best seller at the minute is the Waxperts Wonder Pads. These little heroes contain salicylic acid which is a Beta hydroxy acid and is very well known for reducing acne and keeping the pores nice and clear. Waxperts wonder pads are tough enough for use on the body and gentle enough for facial use.

5. Don't touch your face

Simply because touching our faces can spread more dirt, oil, and bacteria which can cause more breakouts. Squeezing spots also spread bacteria when burst, this can also cause scars on the face and inflammation. Studies found that we touch our faces more than 16 times per hour. As I type this I'm trying my best not to touch my face!!!

Hope you enjoyed these wee tips and if you liked it give it a thumbs up!
